The UNC Charlotte Ski & Snowboard Club returned from the 2022 United States Collegiate Ski and Snowboard Association (USCSA) National Championships in Lake Placid, New York with several awards and accolades.

The Ski & Snowboard Club competes in a national organization comprising of over 170 colleges with over 5,000 student athletes. Members compete in various snowboard and ski events such as boarder cross, giant slalom and slalom throughout the regular season to qualify for the regional championship. From there, the top six teams earn bids to the national championship to compete against the best of the best in collegiate snow sports.

Thanks to the support of the Student Activities Fees Commission (SAFC) for funding the club was able to send six qualified athletes out of the 42 members of the club.

The Men’s snowboard team pushed their way to a second-place season standing against other southeast schools such as Lees-McRae, UVA, JMU and Chapel Hill. This includes a race win by member Blake Corn at a slalom event at Bryce Mountain in Virginia.

At the 2022 Mid-Atlantic championships the UNC Charlotte Men’s Snowboard Team scored a second-place finish qualifying the team for the 2022 National Championships.

Moving over to the Women’s Snowboard Team, freshman Madeline Lay competed solo for the regular season. With a couple top five appearances at Beech Mountain and Bryce Mountain, she earned one of five individual invites to the Mid-Atlantic Regional Championship. With another impressive top five run, she qualified for one of the few individual bids to the national championship.
