UNC Charlotte has partnered with Mecklenburg County Public Health to add a public health kiosk to the third floor of the University Recreation Center. The kiosk has been available for all University faculty, staff and students since its unveiling at RecFest on Aug. 17.

The public health kiosk is the third of its kind in Mecklenburg County, and the first located outside of a county building. The machine, shaped like a traditional vending machine, is free of charge and provides a variety of health supplies:

  • COVID-19 self-test kits while supplies last
  • Sexual health resources
  • STI test kits
  • Naloxone (often known by the brand name Narcan®)

Chris Smith, associate vice chancellor for student affairs with health and wellbeing, believes this kiosk is an important student resource to have on Charlotte’s campus.

“HWB seeks to provide collaborative care and support for UNC Charlotte students,” Smith said. “This kiosk exemplifies partnership with county public health partners to increase students' access to resources that support their wellbeing and health decisions. We look forward to learning more about student health resource needs and applying additional technology solutions.”
