The Office of Identity, Equity, and Engagement has announced a new sexuality and gender identity education program that strives to bring the University a more welcoming atmosphere where everyone feels respected and part of Niner Nation.

The Student Health Center (SHC) is helping limit the spread of influenza by offering flu vaccine clinics over a six-week span starting on Thursday, Sept. 29. Clinics are open to students, faculty, and staff. Charlotte has offered on-campus flu clinics in the past, but this year SHC is working with the School of Nursing to have nursing students involved in everything from assessing clients prior to the shot to administering the vaccine to checking in on patients afterward to see if there are any adverse reactions.

UNC Charlotte Student Legal Services, Inc. (SLS) is a new program available to UNC Charlotte students. Located in Suite 126 of the Popp Martin Student Union, SLS provides enrolled students with confidential legal advice and limited legal representation at no additional charge. The staff is also available for presentations to student groups and academic courses on legal rights and responsibilities.

August is back once again, and with it comes UNC Charlotte’s welcome program: Gold Rush! This year’s Gold Rush begins Friday, Aug. 19 and runs through Monday, Aug. 29.

BrightSmile for Students, a new dental insurance plan offering coverage and convenience designed especially for college students, begins enrollment on Aug. 1 through Sept. 30 for UNC Charlotte students (and their spouses and dependents) who are seeking an option for affordable dental care. The plan, offered by BrightBenefits, provides coverage on the most common dental services and procedures while giving students the freedom to visit any dentist they like, with no network to search.

When Dr. Re’Shanda Grace-Bridges came to UNC Charlotte, she was an out-of-state student from New Jersey interested in studying biology. Now, she looks back at her time with the University as a starting point for her lengthy student affairs career.

UNC Charlotte’s American Medical Women’s Association (AMWA) branch set out to fight period poverty, or the social, economical, political and cultural barriers to menstrual products that cause physical, mental and emotional challenges due to the shame and stigma surrounding menstruation.

From starting out as a club of about 30 people in 2013 to a group of 2,300 in a Discord server, Niner Esports has grown into one of UNC Charlotte's largest clubs at the University.
