Kevin Bailey, from the University of West Florida, has been appointed UNC Charlotte’s vice chancellor for student affairs, effective Monday, July 24, 2017.
In announcing Bailey’s selection, UNC Charlotte Chancellor Philip L. Dubois said, “Dr. Bailey’s extensive leadership experience in all areas of student affairs, coupled with his commitment to student success, make him ideally suited to lead our Division of Student Affairs. We are excited to welcome him back to the UNC Charlotte community and anticipate valuable contributions from him as a key campus leader.”
Bailey, who was selected following a national search, is a highly regarded educator who began his 27-year career in student affairs at UNC Charlotte. Currently, he serves as vice president for student affairs at the University of West Florida, where he also is an associate professor in the Department of Research and Advanced Studies.
Additionally, Bailey has held administrative and teaching positions at Tulane University, Millersville University, Bowling Green State University and Indiana University of Pennsylvania. He has served on multiple committees and has received numerous awards and recognitions for his contributions to those institutions. On the national level, Bailey has held leadership posts in the Student Affairs Administrators in Higher Education (NASPA), ACPA-College Student Educators International and the Association for Student Conduct Administrators (ASCA). He is chair for the 100th anniversary NASPA conference being held in Philadelphia next year.
Bailey obtained his Doctor of Philosophy in Higher Education Administration from Bowling Green State University. He also holds a Master of Arts in Student Affairs in Higher Education and a Bachelor of Science in Management Information Systems.
“I am thrilled to be joining the team at UNC Charlotte,” said Bailey. “I am grateful to Chancellor Dubois and the search committee for the opportunity, and I look forward to getting to know students, engaging with faculty and staff and plunging into the work. I am honored and privileged to work with and serve the UNC Charlotte community.”
Bailey replaces Arthur Jackson, who is retiring as vice chancellor for student affairs on June 30, 2017.
